Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore picked up an endorsement Wednesday from the second-ranking member of the U.S. Senate.
Majority Whip John Cornyn, R-Texas, said he is backing Moore in his Dec. 12 election against Democrat Doug Jones.
As majority whip, Cornyn is the No. 2 Republican in the Senate to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell – whom Moore has called on to resign from his leadership position.
“Alabamians will soon elect a new U.S. Senator and I hope they will vote for the candidate who will follow in former Senator (Jeff) Sessions’ footsteps as a tireless advocate led by principle rather than politics,” Cornyn said in a statement released by the Moore campaign.
